Hi
I have fallen at the first hurdle trying to register my UK van (Mercedes Sprinter). Mercedes-Benz France have returned the 'Fiche De Renseignements' and my cheque for 140.00 as they what additional info.
I have done a google translation of what they are asking for but I am at a loss as to what it is:
For a vehicle from England, certificate from an authorized dealer for the make of vehicle, attesting the conformity of the optics and the speedometer
Please can anybody advise?
Thankyou

It looks like they want a local authorized mercedes dealer to give you a certificate stating that the speedometer is in KPH and the lights are right hand dip.

At a guess they want you to take the car to an authorised Mercedez Benz dealer who will check that you have replaced the speedometer with one showing KPH and have changed the headlamps to ones that dip to the right. The dealer will then issue a confirming attestation.
You may be able to avoid changing the entire speedo by striping yours and replacing the card on which the speed is printed in KPH. Boost and Tuning shops stock cards for citroens etc but I do not think the will have MB Sprinters.
Edit as above interupted mid post.

Thank you for the replies.
I will take it to an authorised Mercedes dealer and see what they suggest. The speedo is in MPH and KPH which maybe ok but the headlamps will need to be changed. I didn't have to do this when I registered my Volvo. I got the CofC from DRIRE without having to change anything. I have been told I cannot go through DRIRE for this vehicle as it is a commercial. Can anybody confirm if this is correct?

Surely a Mercedes Sprinter is sufficiently 'young' to have a dual marked speedo ? That just leave the lights which honestly you really should have known about beforehand

I read on another forum that if you have the new style Log Book (V5) and it has a number in 'section K - Type Approval Number', then no CofC is required.
This might be worth investigating. Bruce

Why it has to be a Mercedes garage I have no idea, I would have thought any garage could do that.....

I have just been told that my UK V5 form is not acceptable for a CT. They must have a certicate of conformity and it must be in French.
Can anybody help me with a suggestion as how to proceed?

Your C of C does not need to be in French nor do you need it for a CT, go to a different station.

Before the Mercedes homologation department would give us a CofC for our Smart car, they required us to take the car to a Merc/Smart dealer for an attestation stating that the lights and speedo were in conformity with the French regs. We went to the main dealer in Limoges who supplied a very detailed letter for no charge. The Merc homologation dept then sent us the CofC. They have a three week turnround period which was a bit frustrating.
