I have just received a bulletin from my breed society in France that is worth sharing. There has been an agreement to standardise tariffs upon a regional basis.
The information on the costs of disposing of a dead horse can be found at www.angee.fr and click on documents and tarifs.
As an indication the costs for a horse (sang) more than two years old varies from €180 in the north west to €450 in the very south east and more for a trait but less for pony or donkey.

I had to have a deceased donkey collected at the weekend and I checked the tarifs on that leaflet (supposed to be cheaper than calling direct) and then called direct and was quoted 32 euros cheaper than what the leaflet said. When the driver turned up he said the lady on the phone had got it wrong (she'd put that a donkey was 480 kilos on the invoice) and it was actually 71 euros cheaper (standard charge).

The only differences calling direct is that I have to return my papers to HN myself and that you don't have to be there at collection time if you use the HN tool.

We"ve had 4 put down since moving here 5years ago. The people who collect, weigh the pony before letting it go into the container. A sec A pony, was 90euros, an Arab was just over 120e. We live in the SW

The leaflet says €144 for a donkey. The woman told us €112 but the van man said it was €73 because he weighed in under 200 kilos and he said that was the standard weight band and price for a donkey.

What I did find odd was he asked if we needed his services again if we could drop any bodies off at the top of the chemin leading to our land, outside the previous owner's other gate, where he 'usually collects from'. Its not only not our property (we only bought part of his land) but its 2k away from our gate.

If we'd have had the necessary equipment to take him that far we would have delivered him to their plant ourselves, like we do if any of the agricultural stock die, rather than leave them hanging around waiting to be collected. Thankfully they collected the donkey really quickly, as it was upsetting enough him dying without having him waiting ages for collection.

Hi

Well not a subject I like but have had to deal with twice...first my dearest Jay died in his stable...our farmer came and looked as we did not have a clue what to do..the stable had to be dismantled to get him out he was then taken to the bottom of our drive for pick up...Claude says they will not come into farmyards to collect... but if you ask me this is totally dependent on the driver on the day as to what they will do for a 'drink' !!! my little Pandy was PTS in the exact spot of collection so no bother...the driver asked for 40 euros cash...job done..!!
